Understanding Existence: A Basic Introduction to Heidegger’s Being and Time

Lecture by Peter Borah

In answer to a alleged contradiction in his statements, Bill Clinton once famously protested, “It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is.” In this lecture, we will discuss Heidegger’s attempt to solve Clinton’s problem, and his result: a new way of conceiving of life, the universe, and everything. Topics covered will include the problems of existence, Dasein, the world, and the care-structure. You’ve heard me name-drop him enough, come see why Heidegger is awesome! (And for those of you who like a little Jesus in your philosophy, this will also be a good introduction to Neil’s talk on Tillich, as Tillich is a direct philosophical descendant of Heidegger.)
