Lecture by Clare Wolfe

Location: meet up in tearoom, move to Ryerson

Abstract:

I’d like to discuss the ways in which the Hindu Goddess tradition has affected notions of Indian femininity, which have in turn shaped the ways in which Indian women participate in public political life. My focus will be on the 20th and 21st centuries. I will be touching on goddesses, traditional femininity, early nationalism and Hindutva nationalism, with some Partition and random decades thrown in. The specifics of what I start with will probably depend on how much background the audience wants/needs.
